Berdych wins Czech Golden Canary tennis poll


PRAGUE, Nov. 26 (Xinhuanet) - Tomas Berdych, 20, has for the first time won the Golden Canary tennis poll and he received the award at the ceremony in Prerov, Czech Republic on Saturday.

Berdych, who is the fifths and also the youngest winner in the 13-year history of the poll, has replaced Jiri Novak who has won the poll for six years in a row.

A total of 143 personalities, including sport officials, journalists and sponsors have answered in the poll.

Berdych obtained 79 votes, followed by Nicole Vaidisova, ranked15th in WTA rankings, and Radek Stepanek who has ended up among the 20 best players this year.

Vaidisova, 16, was named the best female tennis player.
