Due to a bye in the first round, Tomas’ first match in Toronto was his second round match against S. Stakhovsky (UKR).

Tomas played a very strong match, he was in control the whole time, he saved the only break point Stakhovsky had and broke his opponent’s serve three times.

After 90 minutes, he won the match 6-2, 6-4.

Who will be his opponent in the third round is not decided yet.

Final against Nadal

Jul 04, 2010 @ 15:30 / posted by Nadine

Today, the 124th Wimbledon final was played between Rafael Nadal and Tomas!

Tomas started brilliant in the match. He began to serve and did not loose a point during this first game. Afterwards, Nadal managed to do the same. In the following game, Nadal was the first one who could win a point as a return player but Tomas continued to serve great and won this game. At 2-1 Tomas could win his first points during Rafa’s serve as well. At 3 games all, Tomas had a dangerous situation during his own service game for the first time, 0-30. Tomas wanted to attack, but Nadal hit a great longline passing shot, 3 break chances for the world number one. The first one was successfully saved by Tomas. However, Tomas missed his first service and Nadal managed a great return and the break, 3-4. After 33 minutes being played and 3-5, Nadal had his first two set points, the first one was saved by Tomas with an ace. Nadal took his second chance, again with the help of a great return. All in all, Tomas’ serve was not as strong as we are used to it, only 48% first services and Nadal hit more aces than Tomas. Nadal won the first set 6-3.

Nadal began to serve in the second set and Tomas had his first break chance of the match! Unfortunately it was saved by Rafa with a forehand winner but seconds and a double fault later, Tomas had his next chance to take his opponent’s serve. Again, Rafa saved it, this time with a service winner. Finally, Rafa won the first game of the second set after almost 10 minutes. Up to this point, everything was in the row, 6-5 Nadal and Tomas served for staying in this set. Similar to the first set, Nadal had three break chances and took his first opportunity, he won the set 7-5.

Similar to the second set, Nadal began to serve, but this time, Tomas had his break chance at 1-1. He could not use his chance and it was 2-1 Nadal. Both players were strong during their own service games, everything was in the row, 4-3 Nadal. 5-4 Rafa and Tomas served for staying in this final, pojd! Nadal had his first match point and took it immediatley.

Although Tomas lost this final, it was an amazing tournament for Tomas, he showed his great talent. Tomorrow he will be number 8 of the world, his highest ranking so far, but we are sure that this is not the end. Thank you Tomas for such great tennis in Wimbledon!

In the interview right after the match, Tomas said that Rafa was very strong today and congratulated him. Additionally, he thanked his box for the support and is very positive for the future, “who knows what is going to happen in the next years”.  We wish him all the best!

Wimbledon Final!!!

Jul 02, 2010 @ 17:04 / posted by Nadine

It is done, Tomas won his semifinal match against Novak Djokovic!

Tomas reached his first Grand Slam final!!!

He got there due to a very concentrated and good match. Although, both players started a bit nervous into this semi-final, they could hold their service games at the beginning. Tomas served like we are used to it. Fast first services and a great percentage of them as well. Djokovic had more trouble and had two break chances against him at 3-2 for Tomas. Tomas realized them and he lead 4-2! This one break should be enough to end the set with a forehand winner! 6-3!

The second set was dominated by the serving player. The only exception was during Tomas’ service game at 1-2. It was 0-30 and Tomas got a warning beacuse he needed too much time…in the following rallye, Tomas hit a long forehand and Djokovic stopped to play and challenged. The hawk-eye said the ball was on the line! So it was 15-30 and the danger of getting break chances against him was still there. Djokovic had his chance but Tomas saved it with a great forehand winner – 2 games all. In the following game, Tomas had his chances to take his opponent’s serve, but he was not successful as well. At 5 games all, the situation was different. Djokovic served and Tomas had three break chances! He took it and served for the second set. However, “Nole” broke back and the set ended in a thrilling tie-breaker. Tomas had a comfortable lead (6-2) which meant 4 set points. Unfortunately, he could not convert them and Djokovic, who played more aggressive at this moment, fought back, 6-6. In the following, Djokovic had two set points and Tomas another two. Tomas realized his sixth set point at 10-9 and won the second set was well! 7-6 (9)!!!

In the third (and final) set, both players were pretty strong during their own service games, only Tomas had a break chance at 2-1, but could not convert it. It was different at 4-3 when Djokovic made a double fault to loose his service game. It was 5-3 Tomas, he served for the match and his first Grand Slam final!!! At 30-0, Tomas hit an amazing forhand longline which gave him 3 match points! Only seconds later, it was called: Game set and match Tomas Berdych!!!

In the interview after the match, Tomas said “the feeling is absolutely amazing”, “this is definitely the biggest tournament for me”. On Sunday, Tomas will play his final match against Rafael Nadal or Andy Murray, and Tomas “would love to be the last winner”.

We wish him all the best! Keep on playing such fantastic tennis!
